What's your flavor of hunting rifle?

I run 2 diffrent rifles, one is a glenfield model 30a (marlin 336) for brush hunting hogs and the occasional stray chicken getter. It's iron sights only for that one! My second is a savage 110 in 7mm rem mag. It has the accu stock and accu trigger, game reaper one piece mount with a 3-9X40 redfield revolution with the accu range reticule. It weighs about 6 or so pounds so yea it's not a bench rest rifle but will hold a 2" group at a 200 yard zero.
All I run thru my hunting rifles is hornady and has been for years! I've tried other ammo but in order to get the same performance out of another brand costs more around here.

I like my .308 "mini G in a Nigerian pistol grip stock in the woods and my browning long track camo 30-06 in the fields, Both with 3x9 powered Leopolds.

Not exactly a hunting rifle, but my Rem 700 in .308 Win has pulled double duty once. I've had that one since 2001 so it's like an extension of me, I love it.

I'm a fan of the single shots. I love my TC Encore and have multiple barrels to use for different tasks. Although, I've been thinking of getting one of the older Browning A-bolt Micro Hunters. I like smaller rifles for hunting purposes.

I am a fan of the single shots as well, particularly Ruger No. 1V and B models, for groundhogs. I also like Cooper single shot bolt actions. I have a Browning Micro Hunter Hornet, LH, however at the moment it is sitting at work to be shipped out on Monday to a new owner.

I have one deer rifle, it's a Remington 760 Game Master in 30-06. Bought it at a hardware store back in 1976 for $85. which included a Bushnell scope and rings. Cannot remember how many Pennsylvania white tales I brought home with it.

My neighbor had one when I was a kid. Went hunting many times with him and never in all the years I hunted with him he never had a problem with it! Great rifle!!

Briefly in 1980 I used a M-70 in .243 Winchester. Only problem was the bullets topped out at 95 gr., little light for hogs and deer at odd angles. Got a Ruger M-77 in .30-06. Man oh man... the world changed! Nothing in south Louisiana was safe! Have without exception used .30-06 and .308 rifles for hunting medium game in southeast U.S. since 1980. Mostly used Rem. 700 rifles since they were usually cheap and they worked profoundly well. Had a 700 SF-VS that I put over 5K rounds through. Wonderful rifle. Sold it to a church member who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his 7mm Mag. All of a sudden he could take that 700 and nail anything right on out to about 4 football fields away. Good for him. I have enjoyed using military rifles in .30-06, mainly Springfield 03 and Remington 03-A3 rifles. Got to shooting M-1 Garands about 1990. Nowadays... my favorite hunting rifle is a Remington 03-A4 replica w/ a Weaver 2.5 scope. It shoots 1-1.25 MOA with a variety of ball loads such as the Greek HXP M-2 from the CMP. With good handloads, it will keep five groups of five shots under 1 MOA... plenty good enough for deer and hog hunting. Very easy rifle to shoot well. Recently have been thinking about scoping a M-1 Garand. Have a little Nikon 2xEER sitting idle. Probably get a UltiMAK or Amega mount. Iron sights work well on a SR-1 at the range, but in the woods and fields shooting game, scope is real help. Never lost a animal or had to shoot it several times to stop it. Would not now want to finish my hunting years having to pass up good opportunities because of changing vision, etc. Sincerely. bruce.

Well now that I've taken my first Montana elk with it, my SOCOM 16 it's become my current favorite. I've got a custom bolt action based on a Rem 700 action in 30-06 coming in a few weeks (it'll be about 6 months build time) and I'll have to see how it feels in the field, right now I'm sure I'll like the 30-06 for it's greater flexibility but it's hard to beat my little SOCOM for rapid follow up shots. When I took my elk it took me 3 shots to drop him and I doubt if I could have taken that many shots with a bolt action before the elk was out of sight. And no, I didn't take that many shots because of any shortcomings of the SOCOM, I had to shoot through a lot of brush and my first two shots were off target, when took a little more time with the third shot I hit him in the heart and he dropped like a rock. The shot was 110 yards and uphill about 300 feet with open sights. The rifle has a lightweight carbon fiber adjustable stock and entire package only weighs a little over 7 pounds so it's light, quick handling, rifle that definitely does the job well.

The only "sport rifle" that I have(besides shotguns, and .22's) is a Ruger M-77 w/tang safety,in 7mm Rem mag. I primarily hunt with M1's,but My brother uses it for deer, and elk every year.

Feather light AR15 in 6.8 SPC for my brush gun and my PA10 in either 308 or 260 Remington for longer range on medium big game. Stand hunting I use my AR15 in .277 Wolverine. Sometimes the Remington 700 270 Winchester if I decide to go traditional. I pull out my Ruger 77 7mm Mag for the bigger stuff. Squirrels and predators get a taste of my AR15's in either, 5.56, 204 Ruger, 6.8 or 6.5X6.8. Man, I have too many rifles for sure.
