    Springfield Armory M1A Match-Camp Perry 2018

Hi all: I'm back from this year's National Matches, and I'm happy to report that I was able to shoot some video (as well as my target) during last Sunday's Springfield Armory M1A match. If you're interested in seeing the video or learning more about the match, follow the link below. As always, be sure to let me know what you think!

Good video. I've been to Camp Perry a couple of times, but only as a spectator.
I've never been brave enough to participate.

You never told us your score. I'm guessing 380-18x.
    Looking for SA bayonet 1045220

        Cool video!

I didn't realize you had so many M1A videos, I'm going to have to check them out when I have more time, I like all your videos so far. Good work, Sir!

Thank you! Unfortunately, my score was pretty poor this year. I'm embarrassed to post it. As I mentioned in the video, this is a very challenging course of fire. The shooter who actually won the match shot a score just over 380.

Thank you Brian! I enjoy shooting the M1A quite a bit. The one you see in the video is a special rifle to me. It was manufactured circa 1985 by a master rifle builder who worked for Springfield Armory at the time. When I showed it last year to the SA employees working on Commercial Row, the older or the two spoke in very reverent tones regarding my rifle's builder. It has mostly GI parts that were exactingly fit. The stock is bedded (and it is not the "over-sized" stock of later Super Match rifles). The barrel is a Douglas (and it is extremely accurate), and the trigger breaks cleanly at just over 4.5 lbs.

My rifle was originally purchased from Commercial Row at Camp Perry by a friend of mine who is a true Rifleman in every sense of the word. I have the original sales receipt from the day he bought it (as well as the box, shipping carton, and other paperwork). For some reason, my friend almost never shot it. Then, a couple of years ago when I was looking for an M14 of my own, my friend offered to sell me his. He is getting up in years at this point, and he doesn't shoot in too many matches any more due to some health issues. So it was, I was able to buy a like new, mid-1980's manufactured SAI M1A Super Match with only a few rounds ever fired through it.

My rifle is an absolute masterpiece. In last Sunday's match, it was good for a score of 98-1X from 300 yards on the slow prone stage (that's the one score I will post!). As you saw on the video, the wind was gusting and lulling from second to second, and even so my rifle did not let me down. Unfortunately, I let it down in the latter stages of the match.

I hope you enjoy my other videos that feature the Super Match as well!

That sounds right. For some reason, I can't remember his name. Old age and memory problems I guess (or maybe too much bourbon!)
