Early manufacture Springfield 1903 in 30-06 caliber

This is a very early production Springfield 1903 (not a conversion from 30-03 caliber). The stock is quite rare without any stock bolts and the barrel channel is inletted for the open bottom rear sight base. The bore is very good and the barrel is dated SA 2-07. The early bolt is marked s (SA) and the handguard is without clips nor groove on top. The trigger guard has the early modification with the extra pin to prevent accidental discharge. The firing P proof is plain without serifs with the CCV cartouche

      Robert,
      That's quite incredible!
What would the value for insurance purposes be on such a rifle?
      Thanks, and Happy New Year.

I have seen two other Springfield 1903 rifles this year with the same features: no bolt CCV stock, very early dated barrels that were sold in the $2000 to $3000 price range.

        Happy New Year

Beautiful rifle. The early ones... up to WWI... they were made like fine furniture! Got to wonder why they put so much work into what was a combat weapon? Glad they did! Sincerely. bruce.
