I'm wading into the market on Carbines and I am pretty clueless on what to look for. I know I don't want a import marked carbine. Unfortunately, I can't get to the CMP store anytime soon to pick up one from the latest release. Any advice?

I hadn't heard that CPM was offering any more carbines. Are they not taking on line orders?
I have a few of them that I bought before the last offering. But I got an early Plainfield receiver from CMP when they were selling for very little money. I put a new barrel on it using RCS's kind loan of a finish chamber reamer, put it into a Choate folding stock with one of those Picatinny handguards and a Doktor red dot sight. Works like a charm.

Non reparked for $800 and the gun show prices are crazy.
I'm afraid if I ever decide to do a U.S. rifle collection, I'm just going to have to pay the big bucks. I don't think there are any good deals anymore. Someone should kick me in the jimmy, my Dad got me a 1944 Inland from a garage sale in 1987 for $30. I fixed it up,and stupidly sold it about 10 years later. Regret all of the military rifles I sold off.

Theres always the CMP auction, but you're definately going to be paying premium for a good GI carbine. Ive picked up several import marked rifles locally, and they turned out to be great shooters. Good deals come up from time to time, you just have to be ready to snag it up when they do.

That's a nice one. I cringe at today's prices compared to what my Dad paid for mine when I was 15, it was 1987 though, it cost $30. I was dumb and sold it.
If I start a military rifles collection (I only have M1As), of course I will need one, and they're $$$$$ for a really nice one.
