I've been around the various MILSURP forums for years - just found my way here this morning. I retired from the Army effective 1 Jan 2004 after 26 years on active duty. Now living in northeast PA where I'm president of a two-year private college. I enjoy shooting MILSURPS and the M1 is my favorite. I continue to look for the Garand my father was issued at Parris Island during the summer of 1946. t is the one in this picture - SA 2860035.

Thanks, Brian! I love that picture of my Dad - he was too late for WWII but stayed in the USMCR and was activated and deployed to Korea. The picture was sent to our local newspaper along with this press release. As it turned out, my grandmother was a proofreader and she was able to keep both the original picture and press release - I have them, along with my Dad's score book (you can see it in the breast pocket of his shooting jacket) in a case with a placeholder Garand. Hopefully, I'll find the correct on some day.
