Hello,
Long time window shopper, lucked into a really nice Garand, gauges out 1 bore 2 chamber, would like to know some history on it and get some advice for web gear and such. I do intend to shoot 2 and 3 gun tournaments with it.
For reference on my rifle, serial number 5.9 million and change Springfield, mostly numbers matching shockingly (op rod and bolt are the only non matching parts), bore is great, stock has some use wear but nothing abusive.
I know it's a post war gun and doesn't have much history but it does have an A173 with a sideways k above it stamped on the heel of the stock, is that a rack number, an inspection number, maybe a reproofing?
For web gear and accoutremants I'd just like to know a good source for Korean war surplus, my grandad was stuck in at Chosin and shot the oil out of his Garand damn near every night so I want to shoot tourneys against ARs and AK's in tribute while he's still alive and can see it. Any help building up a proper Korean War web rig would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,
The DD
