I was looking for a M1 Garand Forum and found this one. I have a 1943 Springfield bought from CMP about 10 years ago. It has been reconditioned with an OP rod and gas plug that are not Springfield. The barrel is a Korean War era one. So is the stock. I've put about 100 rounds through it and let others who have never shot an M1 Carbine to do so. I was attempting to take it apart to clean it up, but the trigger guard refuses to open up for me. The guard does not have the hole on the backside as some do. Any suggestions of what I have failed to do?
