    FNG from Florida

New guy from the Space Coast area of Florida - my wife and I escaped California earlier this year! Mainly a pistol collector and shooter, although I do have an Enfield "Jungle Carbine" I inherited from my late father. Looking to learn more about "America's Gun" as I'm thinking of adding one to my collection.

Welcome Zorba, I recognize you from a couple of other forums I frequent. I don't always use the same handle. I too have a jungle carbine that I acquired in the late '50s. Bought it a Sears store that had barrels of them for sale. Paid $35.00 for it and it still shoots great!

Uh-oh. My reputation precedes me! My Jungle Carbine was bought by my late father about the same time - very early 60s. I think he paid $25 for it at "Monte Mart", a local chain of 3 stores that were the precursor of today's "Big Box" outfits. It's a Faz and was built 1/47 and is in pretty "cherry" condition today. He didn't shoot it a lot, I disassembled it, refinished the stock, cleaned everything in sight, replaced the FP spring and called it good. A thing of beauty.

I'd like to add a Garand to compliment it.

I just checked in and found your reply. I was issued an M1 Garand for the first three years that I was in the Corps. They switched over to M14s for the last three years that I was in, "59-'65. So I've wanted to get an M1 for a long time and finally broke down and bought one from the CMP last fall. I'm really pleased with it but haven't been to the range with it yet. It came with a new stock and the metal is in excellent condition. They are getting pricey but will only get higher so I took the plunge. By the way, I'm mosseybuck on the G&A forum. We moved from Apopka, Fl. to Co. about ten years ago.

Cool beans! I try to research the heck out of anything/everything I buy or get involved with - so I'm still just "looking" at the moment. I probably need to buy a couple of books on the subject.
