My +30 year love affair with iron sighted military rifles is coming to an end. Vision problems are making it very difficult to responsibly use a iron sighted rifle for hunting. Have a nice 03-A4 replica that I very much enjoy. Want to do a scout type scope mount on one of my M-1's. Have a perfect little Nikon 2X EER scope in hand. Need a mount. Thinking of the Amega or Ultimak. Anyone have experience with either or both of these mounts. Info. appreciated. Sincerely. bruce.

I use an Ultimak on my SOCOM and love it. That being said I needed to do a lot of filing work to get the proper clearances between the mount and the sides of the stock. I also had to remove some material on the receiver end of the Ultimak to eliminate contact. Check out the Scout Hand Guard made by the people at M14.CA, it actually sits just a hair lower than the Ultimak and it's slightly lighter. Don't waste your money on the Amega.
This is my SOCOM with an aftermarket carbon fiber stock on it.

That looks like a real good solution! I am right handed, but due to a birth defect, I must aim with my left eye. This has worked out extremely well using 03 and 03-A3 rifles. With a scant stock, it has worked out very well for me using a 03-A4 replica. I am hopeful that one of these mounts w/ a scope will allow me to shoot from the right hand side while aiming with my left eye.

I'm not sure if that will work, I suspect that you will have to left handed - with the butt in the left shoulder. I'm left handed and I tested my ability to see through my scope using just my right eye and I can't see through the optic, I had to change shoulders in order to see through the scope.
