    Making a barrel alignment tool?

Was thinking about picking up a few of the gas cylinders from drill guns just because they are cheap. Plan was to cut most away so you only have the front section with the barrel splines and sight base. Then mill the flat where the flat is to add a block of steel about 1' total length.
Plan is you could add the section of the Cylinder to the barrel, lock and lock screw.
After inplace it would give a place to set a good level to get the barrel timed.

Same as some of the other tools that are had to find or no one makes anymore.

That would work unless you are really picky. Some say its best to use the cylinder you plan on using on the rifle as there is some varience from cylinder to cylinder.
Personally I haven't ever found it to be a problem.

If you want exact readings, get a Smart Level (Sears carries them.) It gives you a digital readout, such as 1.5 up.All you have to do is match the receiver & block within .05
