    Scoping Up

I'm interested in mounting a scope on my M1 to improve (lets be honest, visibility before the shot) accuracy when hunting and the deer don't feel like walking inside 150 yards. The iron sights still work perfectly fine at this distance as we all know but I'd like a little more visibility to put that shot on the shoulder. I'm thinking on going with an Amega mount as I never could get used to shooting on my buddy's traditional B-square. If I was a lefty it would be more likely, but I just couldn't get a good feel with it. Anyway continuing, because of the Amega's positioning I have to try to find a scope with enough eye relief to reach over the receiver. There are plenty of good pistol scopes and scout scopes that I can find that are able to do this, but I'm greedy. The highest magnification I can find is a UTG 2-7X44 30mm Long Eye Relief Scout Scope and I just want a little more viewing range than that can give me. Anything 4-12 range would be plenty and all I would ever use, but by those magnifications the longest eye relief is a mere 4".

    HELP

There's no way that anyone would put their face that close to the bolt of our beloved M1 and actually fire a round. Talk about second hand smoke being bad! What about the tiny bits of oil, gunpowder and then not to mention the piping hot brass being thrown up your nose.

Sorry, continuing again: this problem makes me then think about possibly dropping it all and looking for a magnified red dot and combining it with a second magnifier. Possibly chaining my way to be able to flip the magnifier to the side and have a 3 or 4 power red dot and then flipping it up for (taking a 5x magnifier) 15 or 20x? But then that brings us back to square one anyway as the magnifiers only have an eye relief of 3-4" themselves.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would definitely look for something of higher quality and durability than UTG/NcStar/Barska/etc. for your M1.

      Thanks m14brian,
After scouring around the internet it seems like I'll just have to learn how to deal with the B-Square. There just doesn't seem to be a scope that fits what I'm wanting. Any suggestions on the best scopes say under $300-400? Leupold and Vortex stick out to me.

I might look at a Vortex, I hear good things all the way around and they are generally less expensive and good quality.

As far as mounts and even scopes for the M1, I can't really advise on the proper setup like I can for the M14. I don't want to give you bum advice, I was hoping someone would else would jump in here with experience. I wish I could be more help on this, all I know that would translate is buy the best you can afford in optics, it hurts to pay for it but I wouldn't want you to be disappointed either.

Nikon has pretty good glass monarch that is my go-to scope when I can't afford the one I really want or the wife finds out I'm putting together another gun.
