Robert, thank you for sharing. Don't see many of those during that period. I think even Pyle mentions they are not common in his book.

Thanks for the photos. For me, the bolt is the heart and soul of the rifle. Not to diminish the significance of the barrel. I just take a liking to the action.

What serial number range would the X 1 bolt be correct for?

this revision 2 bolt with the heat lot X I came from a 62K rifle with SA 9-40 barrel in Calif. The rifle was damaged and I was able to buy the bolt

These revision 2 bolts (J9A and RE 2) are from around late 1941, these are still new, never having been used. Note the way they were finished from the factory. These are the same type as found in Lend lease rifles but without the small BNP stamp that was soon worn out.

photos will not post: the photos show the bolt face and area behind each locking polished bright and without any finish. This started with the early revision 2

If the photos will not post it's because they're too large. I can resize them for you if you send them to me.

Here is a J8 Bolt that I believe shows what Robert is explaining. It is kind of hard to photograph with my old camera. I hope this helps a little in the interim until Robert can get his pics uploaded. Regards
