    1942 Springfield

Picked up a Springfield this weekend sn 7038xx with SA marked bolt and trigger group. Barrel appears to be Danish . Zeroed up nicely in the pasture. I believe the sn puts it in July of 42. Pics to follow.

This is a 703xxx rifle. Great shooter with some sort of brown lacquer shiny finish. Don't really want to strip the finish. May just order a set of wood from CMP. Only markings on the stock are pictured.

I'd agree as to not strip the finish. No need when there's plenty of wood around to use when shooting. Never know when or where that finish was applied, and might very well be of some historical importance to someone else down the road. Nice find there!

JD-Thanks, I agree. This is my 3 gun Garand and it gets plunked in the dump barrel on the move. I'd rather ding a generic set of CMP wood.
