    Interesting Barrel Date

I'm posting this photo for RCS. It's a very interesting barrel date stamp. Have a look at the different sized numbers / letters. They should all be the same size, unless this date was altered at Springfield during the barrel stamping or maybe someone faked it later on?

I'm looking forward to the conversation, and my thanks to RCS for sharing it with us here on m1garandforum.com!

Thanks Brian for posting this photo of the barrel date. This rifle was on the for sale section of another forum and the photo of the barrel date caught my eye right away. It would have been nice to see the markings on the top of this barrel but they are not included. So, either Springfield altered the original date stamp for some reason or someone faked this date stamp. It appears to me that all the SA WW2 barrel production since they started the month and date in June 1940 are about the same size thoughout the war years. If Springfield changed the date stamp for some reason, there should be additional examples around ? besides I am sure Springfield had more than one stamp for S-A-11-43 during that month of production. Unless there is a reason that is not known, it really looks like a fake ? some photos of barrel dates near this example
