So I went to a gun show a few weeks ago in the area, and there was a guy selling two nice M1s on a table. He had army fatigues and a Army shirt on. Anyways, he asked about the M1 I had on my shoulder (the one in the for sale forum). So I handed it over and told him what it was. He then asked how much I wanted for it, and I told him I wanted $1000 even, but I would take less depending on what his offer was. He then asked if I would take $600 for it. Of course, I politely declined. He then handed it back and said, "Well that's all its worth son. You obviously don't know much about these guns." So I gladly took my rifle back and thanked him for looking (politely and with a smile
). So then I proceeded to look at his Garand's on the table. One was an HRA mixmaster with a saw cut gas cylinder and commercial wood, the other was a 1.3 million SA with post-war wood and a painted black gas cylinder that was flaking. And it was slightly pitted. Oh, it was a mixmaster by the way too. Both had price tags that were over $1150 on them. Inwardly I laugh, and say, "Man yours are pretty high for nothing special mixmasters! Put a minty LEAD, RRAD or Tooele rebuild that wasn't re-issued on the table and then we'll talk!" I know what I have, and I know $1000 may be a little high for my rifle, but, I am prepared and willing to take less because I know it is just a run of the mill gun. And let's face it, trying finding a decent M1 on the secondary market for $1000 or less. They are out there but scarce. Now, he is asking more than I was for mine, and not only were his nothing special, but he wasn't even willing to budge on price. It was a take it or leave it deal. Oh well. Sorry, I just have to blow off a little steam.
