    SA 582582 Restoration Project

I purchased SA 582582 from Tony Giacobbe in October 2014. For about a year it sat dormant in a drawer in my gun room, waiting for a barrel to come along. Soon after I purchased my June 1941 barrel the same guy offered me an old beat up March 1942 barrel for about $100.00. What the heck, it might work for SA 582582, I figured.

When I received the barrel I thought to myself, "Oh boy.....what am I gonna do with this thing?" Its measurements are right around 4 x 4 and it shows even more exterior pitting than my 1941 barrel. The bore is dark and frosty, but lands and grooves are still present so perhaps it would hit the broad side of a barn after all....perhaps......we've yet to try. I did some more looking around for 1942 barrels and was SHOCKED to see the prices of those that were in decent shape. So I figured I'd try this one out since I like that "been there, done that" look anyway. That all said, have a look at how the pitting on the barrel matches up with the pitting on the receiver.......hey, it is what it is!

I assembled the rifle, but then had to tear it apart for space reasons during a move and to be honest I wasn't too happy with it anyway. So, here she sits as a barreled receiver. I've hoarded quite a few more parts since I built this one up last time so I'm excited to see what I can turn it into this go around. The biggest PITA is changing that damn data sheet. I do a complete GCA data sheet + additional notes for every build that I do, and changing them is a very time-consuming process.

At any rate, here's what she looks like as of this post.

    Brian,
It does look like the pitting was accumulated together!Question,is that anti seize oozing out from the barrel threads?

      Yes, Sir!
I use a copper-based anti-seize similar to that of what Glock uses in their factory in Austria.
