    January, 1945 Springfield - BA re-do

Hi Troops - Quick question - I have a M1 rifle with a "BA" only on the buttstock - I realize this to be Benicia Arsenal re-do but I understood there were usually initials after the BA - there is none on this rifle. There is the usual circled "P" with serif located on the bottom of the pistol grip. Nothing remains of the original markings on this stock. So just wondering if the BA alone was common practice. Thanks in advance.

I have BA stamped stock with no inspector initials.

The short answer to the op's question is "Yes". You'll also encounter A A and RRAD by themselves.

There are also M1 barrels marked BA after the drawing & revision number, these were manufactured by Buffalo Arms during WW2
