    NM how to prove

I received my Dad's pride and joy m1 garand. I have a few pics I will post. It's a national match but I am lacking paperwork. How does one contact CMP for a serial number look up? Any info on this m1 would be appreciated. The serial number is 6086092. I am working on posting pics

Only thing you will get from CMP in the serial search is if they ever sold the rifle and the grade. Their records for DCM are very limited nad have a very small hit rate
If you want them to do the search :

We will perform the research. Research often involves going through boxes of old records. Our files are only complete from 1996 to the present. We do have some earlier files, but know they are incomplete. We require a letter request with payment and we will respond by letter stating if we found anything, and if so – when we sold it and what model it was we actually sold. We will not identify original purchaser. Allow 2-3 weeks per serial number.

We regret not being able to perform this service for free. We receive dozens of requests each week and it can take up to one hour just to find that we do not have any record of a serial number being researched. Charge is $25.00 per serial number, prepaid, whether we find anything or not.

If interested, send letter to CMP, ATTN: Serial Number Research, 1401 Commerce Blvd., Anniston, AL 36207.

It doesn't hurt to try the cmp, the $25 is worth it either way. Even though I had some documentation already the CMP was able to confirm my 1955 NM. So they at least have some of the old records back that far. Good luck!

CMP's records are complete from 1996 to date, the records are incomplete before this when DCM ran the show

The CMP was able to confirm my 1960 NM from the DCM records.
            Sold July 08,1960

            Well worth the $25
