I hadn't seen this stock marking before. This Garand is a typical U.S. rebuild with a .30-06 barrel.

It's more likely than not just a rack number and has nothing to due with caliber.

I've seen other numbers in this area before,so my guess is a rack number.Comment

the location of a rack number has a lot to do with the type of rifle rack used (examples: A frame, wall rack)Comment
