First, hello to all. I am hoping some of the experts on this site can help me identify what I have, and approximate value. I will be posting pictures and more details when I get home this weekend. For now, just a bit of the story.
About 28 years ago or so, I order the best grade of M1 Garand being sold out of the Shotgun News, which was a dealer type publication and the way to find cool guns and prices at the time. I will look for the import stamp when I get home. I think there is one if memory serves. Anyway, when it arrived it was covered in grease. There was one small area on the op rod that had the grease wiped away. At the time, I had no idea why. Once I cleaned it I found a NM on the op rod next to the area that was wiped. On the barrel, it looked like a NM was hand engraved, not stamped, prior to parkerizing. Both sights and stock all seemed to be regular issues stuff which makes me think it might have been a NM barreled action that was built into a complete gun for export?
If any of this story rings a bell with anyone, please let me know. I will try to attach some pics this weekend.
Thanks, Dave
