    Garand worth

Hello all. I have been offered a Garand in a trade and figured I had better do some research. Im awaiting pictures, so I'll post what I know so far.

The fellow told me it is a 1943 Springfield Armory receiver rebuilt by Winchester with a WRA barrel, all wood matches, no import marks.

Could someone give me a brief history and, if possible, on a scale of 1-10 how the quality or desirability ranks. Also, a rough estimate cost in USD.

    Thanks I'm advanced.

      Welcome to the forum
Your buddy is misinformed as Winchester did not rebuild rifles. There just inst enough information to give you a accurate estimate of value.

Ok so I went through with the trade. I traded a mini 14 for the Garand. Being that the rifle is now in my possession, what are some things to look for? How can it be dated? What info is needed to form a rough value?

You need to show photos of the receiver and any markings as well as the top and side of the barrel plus the parts. Best reference is the auctions or CMP forums where they show rifles broken-down to I. D. the parts

Did the Ruger Mini 14 have the roller on the bolt ?

I'll have to disassemble it and take pics.

As far as the mini, the roller was not on the bolt. It was a 187 run. Accuracy was horrid.

              This. Winchester never did rebuilds.

Ok. So the Garand I got in the trade is a 1943 Springfield reciever, Winchester barrel with a mix of Springfield and Winchester internals. Only part I can find that is post war is windage/elevation knobs, they are IHC. The stock is a dark color with many knicks but retains the circled p on the handgrip.

My previous Garand is a post war Springfield reciever coupled with a 1953 Springfield barrel in a new CMP stock. Wood is pristine, came in a CMP case.

I hope the pic is decent enough, I'm not very computer savvy. With this info, can anyone give a rough price? Or is even more info needed?

Photos of the barrel markings, photos of the complete receiver right side out of the stock, photos of any markings on the stock, and condition of bore would all be helpful.
