    1942 .... a gate guard with an M1 Garand

I found an interesting photo the other day and am wondering about the Timeline.

The photo caption said, "1942 at the Boeing Facility in Seattle, Washington"

My question: in 1942, would a gate guard have an M1 Garand ?? Were there any M1's available for such duty in 1942 ??

There were over half million M1 rifles already manufactured by the time/photo, it would be more unusual to see a Model 1903 rifle

The first 38K sent to England for lend Lease were late 1941 rifles

Sure they were in not full production but ever increasing war scale production.
