    Stock marking H ?

    Hello m1garandforum !

    Does anyone know what the small capital H represents next to the Proof mark ? Upper right side.

    Rifle purchased from CMP

    That is not the location for the first proof mark, is there another proof stamp by the trgger guard recess ?

    The H stamp is a inspection stamp, have seen a G stamps on WRA stocks, believe end of WW2 period Click image for larger version

      Very interesting about the inspection stamp.

      Any idea why the P would be in the location in pics?

      The stock also has a BA stamp which I believe is for Benicia Armory in the Bay Area.

        Sometimes you will find a P without a circle too, photo shows a SA SPG gas trap era stock that went though rebuild Click image for larger version

          The BA is a rebuild stamp from Benecia Arsenal which was in California.

            Very cool to see the Benicia Arsenal stamp on the 1903. I wonder when they would have done the rebuild or inspection. I plan to do some research to learn more about the Benecia Arsenal. Thank you for the photos and comments.

          Here are some additional Benicia Arsenal stamps all boxed in rectangle B.A. - BU, B.A.- BD, B.A. - W, B.A. - WL, no box BA - JPL
