I took delivery of a CMP Special Grade in May. I still haven't put anything on the stock yet. I love the way it looks so I was wondering if anyone has used Garand Gears "Gunny Paste" without tung oil or linseed oil first? I don't want to change the color or make it shiny. Actually, Garand Gear shows all of their wood finish products out of stock, so any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Using boiled linseed oil was the recommended military procedure. I never used anything else and am happy with the results. If you want to try other items I would suggest taking the stock off the rifle and experimenting in the channel of the stock.
Looking for 16" SA bayonet Mfg 1918, S/N 1045220

This is a little like the correct it vs leave it as you got it issue. I use raw linseed oil because it soaks deeply into the wood, stabilizing it against climatic changes. The raw oil also takes a long time, I apply it twice a day for weeks until it stops soaking in. I wipe off the excess then let it surface harden for a week. The thief may possess something he stole, but he does not own it.
The owner has a right to take his property back from the thief.
