Red Dot Sights for aging eyes

I own an H&R CMP Garand 1954 S/N. I no longer see well enough to enjoy a firearm with an aperture sight. I see several options for converting the original sight to a red dot without permanently altering the rifle. Has anyone had success with this? I would sure appreciate recommendations. Please do not make rude insults about destroying the history of the rifle. I would not do that.

Look into the Ultimak mount. It replaces the rear hand guard and has a rail on it for mounting a LER (long eye relief) scope on it. Since it sits in front of the receiver, it doesn't interfere with normal loading or ejection. No permanent mods are made to the rifle so it can be put back to its original state.
