Some of the Italian 22 small bore clubs still use the 22 rim fire conversion of the Lee Enfield Mark 3, some are in 22 short and some in 22 long rifle. With all the surplus M1 parts, some club members got the idea to mount the M1 rifle rear sight assembly on a modified Lee Enfield. The Italian shooters are very familiar with the M1 sights having used the M1 and BM 59 for years. Also you can still buy a "working" M1 rifle in Italy too

Years ago target shooters using the Model 1917 Enfield, would adopt the Model 1918A2 BAR rear sight to the Enfield. This provided windage and a better elevation. It was not allowed in official matches
