    My "New" Springfield Garand

Hi guys, I just purchased a "new to me" Garand and would appreciate any information anyone has to share about the "silver" looking tip of my rifle's barrel and gas tube.

    Here's a pic:

The gas cylinder, gas screw and gas lock are stainless steel. They cannot be parkerized but are chemically blackened. Your gas lock has the finish worn off and are down to bare metal. Its very common

I've put a few clips through it and it runs like a champ.

Nice rifle, the cleaning kit is for a M14 so the chamber brush is too short too clean the 30.06 chamber.

Ah, I kind of wondered about that, thanks for letting me know.
