    Clip help

My CMP rifle really is having an issue with the clips my buddy gave me. I believe they are from the Greek ammo he shot.
They are REALLY hard to insert into the rifle. After inserting the top round does not want to feed, and we have to run the bolt back several time before it will feed.
Is there a better clip available?

Did rifle function OK before with other enblocs?
What is stamped on the enbloc that is giving you issues(in the circle)
Explain in detail exactly what is happening " we have to run the bolt back several time before it will feed." doesnt make sense

Rifle is brand new. It is a special that is totally rebuilt by the cmp.
i have never fired it before, so those clips are the only I've tried.

You never explained what the rife is doing.
When you load the enbloc in the rifle is the op rod not going forward on its own?? If so this is totally normal. What you do is bump the op rod handle forward with the palm of your hand.

Did you completely dissasemble the rifle and properly grease it?

When I load a clip into the rifle, the bolt does not go forward. I smack it with my hand and it does not go forward, and I mean you could beat on it until your hand breaks. I end up having to pull back the bolt over and over again to nudge the top round forward. Once it's in battery, it runs perfectly and ejects the clip after the last round. I had a couple old timers (one who actually used the rifle in combat) and they all told me that I just have a really nice, tight rifle. How the heck would this rifle go into combat like this?
I'm an admitted Garand newbie. My experience is with the M16 in Iraq, so I'm open for any and all help.

Try some original US GI clips such as those marked BR-W, IS, DAQ. SA. BR-W are very common. If you do an internet search you will see all the US GI en block clip codes listed. A lot of the current produced clips do not work well.

Did you completely dissasemble the rifle and grease it? These rifles are very dry, CMP does not lube them. Sounds as though you may have a out of spec bullet guide

Any tips on a good source to buy some good clips from?

Yes, sir. I stripped it all down and grease it up according to the CMP manual. I've had it apart twice since shooting it to verify everything looks okay. The rifle runs great, and shoots nice....once it accepts that first round!

Do you know which part is the bullet guide? If so do you have a micrometer that you can measure the lobe ? I can walk you through it

How about the enbloc that came with the rifle, did it function OK with it?
If rifle functions fine with other enblocs you dont have a problem. If rilfe doesnt function correctly with any enblocs contact CMP customer service

Does the bolt unlock when you put in a new clip? i.e. does it go "click" when the clip is seated?? If so, the timing is good, it's just tight and not worn in yet. As Bill said, it's absolutely normal to have to smack the op rod on the first round to get the bolt moving. Some of those Greek clips aren't worth the powder to blow 'em to Hell.
