    Garand parts kit

I am in no way connected to this seller but on ebay is an M1 Garand parts kit. Seller ARC4uni (M1 Parts kit) claims the kit is the remains of an M1 Garand that "blew up". There are many photos and the receiver is in multiple pieces. Looks like everything is shown but the op rod. I would like your thoughts if it was a catastrophic failure or some type of demill. If its a catastrophic failure it is amazing no one was injured as seller claims. I have never seen a M1 Garand receiver "blown apart" as this one is.

Thanks Brian. What do you think happened to the receiver ? I never saw an M1 receiver destroyed in that way.

It's sold. I had no interest in the kit. I was just amazed at the total destruction of the receiver and what may have caused it. Hoped other members would take a look and comment on the receiver destruction.

That looks like a result of an out of an out of battery fire. I've seen one caused by insufficient headspace before that cracked the receiver but, didn't separate it, in a couple of the same spots as that one came apart in. A double loaded round could also, possibly, cause it or one loaded with pistol powder. I certainly didn't see enough parts there, that I would trust on another rifle, to justify the amount the auction sold for. Definitely not $431 worth of parts especially when you have no idea what the condition of the barrel is after taking a hit like that. That leaves just a few trustworthy parts and not enough to make that a good purchase. You could buy a FG rifle complete from CMP and get far more value than you'd ever get from a blown up rifle with questionable remaining parts.

I concur with lapriester regarding the price, plus I would think with that violent of an explosion some of the internal parts would be damaged. Just something to think about. On one that I saw a several years ago, the follower rod/arm were bent as well as the bullet guide. In this auction the parts all appear to be good. Whatever did happen, I am happy the seller to did not report an injury took place.
