    SPG Stock

I recently picked up this SPG stock. Pretty excited to use it on my 20K gas trap restoration.

You would actually require a stock with the non serif P proof in a circle and the D28293 drawing number for a 20K rifle. As these stocks are very difficult and rare to find, I doubt many collectors will know. What is the drawing number and heat lot code on your barrel ?

        RCS,
I was told that my 20K receiver is too late for the non-serif P and drawing number on the stock. Was the transition period around this serial number? What about a 23K receiver??
I don't have a barrel, yet, and likely never will. I'll have to settle for a repro or Criterion I suppose. I do have a real keystone spring, but likely will have to settle for a repro compensating spring I suppose.
Thanks as always for your valuable input!

          Nice looking stock, congrats!

The stock on GT 21167 has the serif P with the Drawing number.

the serif P in a circle was never used with the drawing number - check Pyle's book "The Gas Trap Garand" The stock on sn 21167 also had a fake SA SPG as verified by Rick B. unless since replaced ?

Maybe I'll use this stock on an unmodified extra-wide rib receiver if I can find one. I checked Pyle's book and it seems as though this stock would be correct for around 28K to maybe end of production. Is that basically the correct range?

                Brian,
The various stamps of inspectors, year of inspections and Armory producing the small arm is fascinating. I had a 1836 Johnson flintlock pistol that was stamped with year&inspector's stamp. Have a Trap door ,Krags and 03's. Neat stuff knowing someone took the time to look over each small arm before they were accepted. Thanks for posting

What a great find. I have never seen an unmodified stock. On gun broker there is a modified stock but no where even close to the condition of yours.

Thanks.....this one came from a gas trap restoration project that I picked up from a guy a few weeks ago. There were a lot of other early parts, too.

Did you snag the other parts also? If so, let's see 'em!

I forgot about this thread.......the project also contained a no-pad housing and a no-revision hammer. I got lucky with this one for sure. The stock has now been verified as authentic by three independent sources. This one's a keeper for sure!
