    Early Bullet Guides

Here are three early bullet guides. In Billy's book, he says that the first revision opened up the throat, and that SA was added to the drawing number upon the start of Winchester production. I have no doubt that he is right, but for every rule in Garands it seems that there is an exception (for followers, there are more exceptions than rules, I think.) Anyway the three BGs in the pic are marked: B-8875; B8875SA (there may be half a space between the 5 and SA); and B8875-1SA. The middle one seems to have the early, narrow throat. Has anyone else seen another?

Hmmm, I'll have to check my little stash for you.

George, The very early Winchester was marked B8875 than the W.R.A. was added in different locations at first, then B8875W.R.A., there could be a Springfield B 8875 but I can not find one

Yes, George, I've got one. I'll see if I can get some pics for you if you want, but it looks like yours; narrow slot all the way to the end.

George, the bullet guide B8875SA with the short or narrow throat is common on mid to later 1940 rifles. By the 70K serial number range, you start to find the revision 1 stamp

Thanks Jeff, I was too slow and didn't get to see it I guess. I don't need pix though,

Robert, thanks for the info on use of this bullet guide. You've always got the answer.

George, while on the subject of 1940 era parts, I seem to remember that you had a rare drawing number on a trigger guard ? or was it some other part ?
