    s/n 52808 with S-A 8-40 barrel & London proofs

I was able to trade into an incomplete rifle that had a mint S-A 8-40 barrel with British London proofs stamps. I had never seen a 1940 barrel with British proofs and wanted this example for my collection. The GCA had a data sheet on a low number direct conversion also with a S-A 8-40 barrel and British London proof marks so there is more than one example around. photos show the receiver and barrel markings. I did find a nice stock (a little too early) to complete the rifle but still an ongoing restoration Click image for larger version

That's how I started out my gas trapped gas port conversion. The serial number on my rifle was is 51712. It was just a barreled receiver. So I built it as a conversion. I used all Gas Trap Parts from the serial range of 51,000 with a -1 in-modified op rod and a GHS stock. The bore was dark but strong rifling and gaged a 1. I believe the barrel was March 42 if I remember correctly. I'd have to dig it out and look.
