    gas trap front sights

These have been faked for a very long time with some of the best fakes from Utah in the early 90's. Some were cast in pot metal or brass and painted in NJ. Others were produced with fake gas cylinders and muzzle plugs. Twenty years ago originals were around $1200.00. It is not really a part you find in a box at the gun show.

in the enclosed photo, only one is original Click image for larger version

bottom right is from Rahway, NJ, cast in pot metal with drawing number cast into side, a little undersize. Does not look bad compared to a ratwox sight as there is more detail. The top of the sight blade should be square and not come to a point

Thought that one was a little sketchy. Man...you really put up some hard tests.

Here is what the original looks like on an original cylinder. Front sights are very expensive when available Click image for larger version

Here is another fake from Utah, got this from an advanced collector years ago. Same person also made fake keystone & comp springs which were too stiff to work. Click image for larger version

That's a nice fake. Aged well. it has just the right amount of dings and nicks in it. Could almost pass off as a real one. I may be interested in it if you decide to sell it?
