    11-41 Barrel Date SA

I'm new here, so I thought I'd show off a favorite of mine. 1941 barrel date SA, 406,000 serial range, remnants of British Lend Lease red paint on the fore end.

Do you have the Birmingham or London proofs and are the proof stamps at the rear of the barrel ? I have some data on s/n 406440 and 406782 both with S-A 11-41 dated barrels and SA GHS cartouches and large crossed cannon stamps. Also have have some data on s/n 407331 with S-A 11-41 bbl and London proofs.

It is not common to find a S-A 11-41 without British proof, but i have one in a rebuild

There are two other pics, one of the proof markings under the op rod. The stamp must have been pretty worn, as it's not very plain. Edit: After holding the rifle under bright light and with magnification, it looks like London Proof markings.

I agree, looks like the London proof, do you have photos of the bolt and receiver ring. Also is there a code on the rear sight cover ?

There's no code on the rear sight cover. Oddly, the bolt is marked "RE4D." According to my reference material, bolts coded with that were used in November 1941 on serials 377259 to 401529. My rifle being 5,000 units ahead of the high number doesn't sound the alarm bells.

I checked my data and found the following serial number Springfield rifles all with revision 2 bolts heat lot code RE4D. 405541, 422881, 407331, 413928

The Lend Lease stamps on the bolt and receiver ring do not always show up well because of wear - but should look like this in my photo. The covers were all coded but it is possible to have one without the code - but rare Click image for larger version
