Gas Trap/Early Gas Port Receiver Dilemma🤔

    Hello everyone.

So I am working on a project of a repro Gas Trap serialed M1 with lots of early gas trap parts but an early gas port cylinder.

I managed to find a lovely repro set of Gas Trap handguards from Brian (thanks again mate!) With the front handguard ferrule with the lip.

the issue is that the receiver has a welded gas port barrel on it. Is it possible to find a repro Gas Trap cylinder which would fit onto a Gas Port barrel and which would also allow itself to be used with the gas trap lip ferrule?

or...What are my options to get around this dilemma.

    Thank you!

The gas trap barrel is 22 inches long while the gas port barrel is 24 inches long. It is possible to reduce the length of a 24 inch barrel, reduce the front diameter and install a threaded sleeve. the sleeve is also outside threaded to accept the gas trap cylinder and a keyway cutter is used to cut the single spline slot. My photos show an original gas trap barrel in the center and the barrels on the far left and right were made from 24 inch barrels. Click image for larger version
