I rather doubt anyone saves worn out M1 barrels (unless it has unique markings for reference). Military salvage would have been the best choice years ago along with some connections, would have helped. Sometimes the entire barrel (gas trap) and receiver were dumped in the salvage yard. An example is serial number 4497 with D28287, heat lot J2 barrel. This was recovered from the Tooele Depot around 1966 or 67 and restoration was started some years later. In 1994 it was sold and the restoration continued by the new owner. The last time it sold in 2009 the price was 19K
