    Very Early Rear Sight

This is a little side project that I'm working on. Note the groove in the elevating pinion knob and the small solid arrows on the cap. The base is numbered.
I still need an early windage knob with no finish to make it perfect. The spanner nut is not pictured, but is well worn with no finish remaining.

    It never ends....

Nice. You'll need a windage knob with open arrows to complete that sight. Cool pinion. The groove in the drum is seen on modelshop pinions and possibly first production rifles.

      Thanks for the info, Bubba!!
And now I have another part to hunt down........

The receiver that I'll use for this build is very interesting.......a nice 4-digit, modified, but with almost no finish remaining.

Here's an update on my side project........

Note the later, blued, windage knob in the third photo. That's just a place-holder knob until I can find the correct one, with correct finish (or lack thereof). You can see the spanner nut is matching the rest of the rear sight components so far. Also note that I changed out the short pinion to a different short pinion. The one shown here actually matched a little better IMO.

None of these parts came together, all have been color matched so I'm pretty happy with their color and wear patterns so far. Long way to go on this one........it'll likely end up a 1941 direct conversion project.
