British proof marks on 1940 barrel

This S-A 8-40 barrel (mint condition) has the London proofs, I did find a GCA data sheet on sn 7860 which
the data sheet stated was a "direct conversion" which also had the same S-A 8-40 with the same London
proofs. This rifle has a mixture of early gas trap parts and some early gas port parts

Super nice as always. Is it true that years ago nobody wanted the British-proofed barrels??
I really need to start posting some photos. I have a super nice 10-40 barrel that I am saving for a special build.

Depends on the time period, but there were times when Lend Lease rifles were used as donor rifles for their SA GHS stocks,
sights and 1941 internal parts. A nice rifle in the mid to late 200K serial range was worth more than a Lend Lease and did
not have the British proofs. Joe has a nice example of a 400K non Lend Lease rifle that was already posted on this forum.

People did a lot of things to Lend Lease rifles: installed scope mounts, recoil pads, new late rear sight group while others
shot corrosive ammo and never cleaned the barrel, these were perfect donor rifles for that nice late 200K to 400K restoration.

Photo of some barrels. You could always use your S-A 10-40 on a low number direct conversion.
