You have to take what you can find now, in early serial numbers. A few years ago any receiver with corrected guide ribs would not even be considered for a gas trap restoration nor would the corrected guide ribs being altered back to original configuration be accepted ( which is very difficult to hide like the anneal color). I do not mind a corrected early receiver if there is some providence or historical connection - but still not as a gas trap restoration. If you are just building a shooter with a repro front end, the corrected guide ribs are not important

That is a beautiful receiver. Sometimes I wish I had it back..... Build it anyway you are happy with. It will be near impossible to build it out to a 100% USGI gas trap and the built up guide ribs would detract from it over one that is not built up but enjoy it for however you see fit. I built what I could to get as close to a complete gas trap before I was ever fortunate enough to own a complete one. A lot of people go down this rabbit hole. Some finish it and some don't . Serial number seven sold recently for way too much money for what it was . Two bidders went at it until one gave up and the outcome was a lot more money than the sum of the parts. It had everything on it from very early parts to post war parts but it was someones rendition of a gas trap or at least what they could do until they got tired of looking for parts. I know a few people who's gas trap is complete except the barrel. I had a few until I bought some else's project rifle to get the parts I needed. Enjoy your project. Build it like you want it You can always change the receiver if you find one that is not modified or build it into a 1940 rebuild or later. Above all, have fun doing it....

Thanks for selling it to me Paul. It's been in the safe since arriving. I'm still trying to wrap up 25940 and 78974. I'm also in the process of moving, so things are on hold now. I haven't had time for much, not even held a rifle for a couple months- which is killing me by the way. I've already missed a few matches and the Eastern Games are not happening for me this year either. I'm not sure what I will end up doing with this beautiful thing. I highly doubt any plans to put early parts on it. The three later traps I have done/doing are enough in both time and money. I still want that no trap butt plate by the way. Anyhow, it's a jewel that is always great to look at!

I'm gonna eat crow on this one. I was thinking it was listed in SRS for some reason. The post under this thread shows a snapshot of the numbers around this receiver- many going to Co E or F 29th infantry. https://www.m1garandforum.com/forum/...ect-conversion
