43457 gas trap restore/reproduction gets out to the range quite often. It is an absolute joy to shoot and darn accurate. I shoot some 125 TNT with 47.7 h4895 out of it. Super good load with reduced recoil. The only issue I have is my rear sights are almost all the way right. I only have four or five clicks available. I thought it was a timing issue, but my other trap build is identical. I think the front sight might be off a few thousands?
The other two have not been out yet. Enclosed is a 200 yard target from 48042. The one out the bottom is me.
Can I ask who made the gas trap barrel and gas cylinder assembly? Any functioning issues? Do they have the 7th round modification? Like I said nice rifles.
Thanks for the kind words. The trap kits I have are all the Rat Worx kits. The barrels are criterion. All my gas trap receivers have had the modifications. No function issues other than the rear sight doesn't leave me much. I would love to take my traps across the course. The wind would get me at the 3 and 6 I'm afraid.
On the gas trap what set up are you using for the recoil spring (springs) and follower rod? I suggest you shot it in at least 1 match. The most fun I ever had at our clubs DCM 100 yard match years ago was to shoot the match with a original Johnson rifle. I shot in 3 or 4 matches. My scores were not great, but to shoot in rapid fire was worth it. Plus the fact I out shot some other guys shooting club issued M1s was a plus.
Bubba1 has produced some reproduction keystone/compensation springs and follower rods that are amazing in all aspects. I've shot it in several matches,ie Nationals, Talladega.
