    Cracked PB operating rod

    Here is a lightly used PB op rod that has seperated (cracked) following the grain line of the steel in a most unusual place ,first time seeing this myself.

          Sure something to look for, Question! what kind of Ammo are you using? Our Military arms are getting up in years, all well made and designed,I felt was far superior to what we see today. Thanks for that post, Salute AJ

            Hey Iron Worker: did you get a new rod? Been wondering what caused that, told another Trooper in Fort Worth about your post, he felt you were possibly shooting some high power ammo. I am not a loader, but this guy really has a nice expensive rig. He told me to tell ya to check the bolt lug that the rod intersects it could possibly be damaged to, not to offend just a suggestion HNY AJ

              send it to Columbus Machine,,they can fix almost any thing Garand!

                I would presume it to have been a flawed handle forging blank since the failure is on the low-to-no stress side of the part. Certainly an incredibly odd place to find a crack on an oprod.
