    I love Montana

So the wife and I were returning from a business trip to Salt Lake City and just about 5 miles south of Butte Montana on the east side of I-15 we saw about 50 elk just browsing as calmly as you could wish only about 300 yards away.

That's pretty awesome! I hope I can get to a place like that eventually.

A friend and I were scouting an area just about a mile and a half from my house last week. The snow back there was still a couple feet deep so we used his Polaris Ranger, driving on the forest service road was still pretty difficult but the alternative was to walk cross country on snowshoes which would have taken a couple of hours to accomplish. Anyway, just as we pulled up to where we wanted to start hiking we jumped three big bulls. If it had been hunting season we could have probably each gotten one of those boys. The wife and I also saw at least 50 deer on our trip home, spring time is great around here, critters of all kinds are starting to show up everywhere...but that also means that the bears, wolves, mountain lions, and just about everything with claws and teeth will be around soon.

What an awesome sight to see!
Do you ever do any shed antler hunting?

No, I don't actually hunt for sheds but if I see any laying about I pick them up. Someday I'll try my hand at making handles and other things.

I would think those elk antlers would be fun to hunt for. Are they pretty easy to spot if you're just walking about?

It's hit and miss, they aren't as easy to spot as some would assume. Branches and foliage tend to camouflage them pretty well.
