As I understand it, final load evaluation for the new 7.62 x 51 cartridge was completed in 1963. I believe Lake City was chosen to produce the M118 rounds. I have not seen
Match stamped brass from that early date but have some 1964 LC head-stamped brass. Has anyone seen that early Match brass? Just wondered when it first showed up. I'll post some photos
of what I have as soon as I can get a decent picture of it.
Also have some never loaded Lake City 30-06 Match brass somewhere, will post photos of that as well.
I can understand a bit better now why folks start collecting this stuff, it's a whole sub-set under the umbrella of interest in Military history and the M1 and M14 in general. I have some
boxes of new M118 rounds from the 60's, seems a shame to shoot it now through I'm sure others would do so gladly. I can see both sides...
