M1 Clip modified for cleaning and Training use.

Back in the early 1940s, before a rod was made for the M1 rifle, there was trouble with the long MG rods being used for cleaning. The army came up with a modified M1 clip that would block the rear of the magazine so as to block rods and patches from getting into the works. This clip could also be used the other side up to hold the op rod catch out of battery for coach /student dry fire. I came across a series of photos showing how this was done, and a good friend modified some clips for me, as they are very hard and difficult to drill. I painted mine red. The first photo is one of the original army pictures ( note early through cut notch clip), the second a modified modern clip, the third the clip in cleaning use.
